St. Michaels, the town that fooled the British
During the War of 1812, the British Navy targeted St. Michaels, supplier of many "privateer" vessels which plagued their ships. What took place to "hide" the town made history as the first "black out" in world history.

Oxford
Oxford is a charming town. A tree-lined and waterbound village with a population of less than 1000. It is one of the oldest towns in America and has a long history in maritime activities. Early in the day, you will still find local watermen at the town dock unloading the catch of the day. You can watch the sailboats arriving from all over the bay to dine at the various local restaurants our town has to offer. It also played an important role in the history of the revolution as well as the Civil War. Click here to see one of those stories.

Log Canoe Racing
Originally built by the native Powhatan tribes along the Chesapeake Bay, these boats were adopted by early English settlers, who discovered that the sturdy craft could handle the rough waters of the Bay and carry a heavy load. The canoes were made of logs from loblolly pine or tulip popular trees. The English settlers added a sail to the canoe, increasing its speed. Preceding 1885, log canoe racing was conducted in a haphazard fashion with pick-up races being held whenever a sufficient number of starters could be collected. They continue every summer and are spectacular to watch. Go to the web site for the schedule.
